Paul Jay Printmaking & Painting

Sewickley, PA

Artist, photographer, graphic designer, printmaker, museum designer.

Serigraphy and especially photo serigraphy was a passion of mine in undergrad and graduate school. The screen printing process and  science of pigments  intrigued me. I experimented with fluorescent screen printing inks, despite their non-archival properties.  Images were created without the help of computer graphics which did not exist at the time. Stat cameras, hand-cut rubylith templates, pen and ink on acetate and water soluble glues applied directly to the screens were utilized. Blended color elements were made with rainbow roll technique. The work dated in 1978 was included as part of a graduate school thesis. I was privileged to be able to teach a Summer class in serigraphy at Rhode Island School of Design, a Winter session class at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and later general printmaking classes at a local community college.
